Intaglio Printing. Developed during the 14th Century. Examples are etching, engravings, aquatint, mezzotint; made from metal and plastic plates. The incised design on the plate has ink rubbed into its depths, the surface is cleaned and it is put in contact with the paper. A press is required to transfer the image in to the paper.
