The development of printing. Printing development over the centuries in response to new inventions, improvements in materials and demands from the user. There are, four basic of printing: In historical order they are, relief, intaglio, lithography and screen-printing. All are use by printmakers, and all give different results.    

Relief printing. In simple form it has been used since earliest times. Examples are seals, rubber-stamps, woodcuts, wood engravings, linocuts, relief etchings, print from cards, stone, plastic and collaged block. The raised surface of the block is inked, put in contact with paper and burnished or put through a press to transfer the image.
